An overdose of numbing medicine can cause fatal side effects, if too much of the lidocaine (main ingredient of numbing cream) is absorbed through your skin. Creams like Dr. numb and other topical numbing creams deaden the nerve endings temporarily for 2-3 hours. The application and dose of cream is important to be applied in limit. The fatal overdose occurs when numbing cream is used without advice. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or on medication before using Lidocaine based numbing cream.If you are allergic to Lidocaine or any type tropical medication, you should not use numbing cream.

If you are using Lidocaine cream
- Wash your hands before and after using lidocaine cream. Apply the cream evenly to the area. Wash the area after about 45 minutes and dry it completely. The better the cream is applied and absorbed in the skin,less painful it will make the process.

- Remove the bandage or paper from the area and wipe the cream with damp cloth.
